All our Physios have special qualifications in Clinical Pilates, obtained through Dance Medicine Australia. Your Physio will individually design a program to meet your specific needs. Programs are designed to increase spinal strength and stability as well as postural awareness. They are also useful to ease lower back pain and assist patients to move more feely. Generally 3 or 4 individual supervised sessions are required with the physio to establish a program of exercises for you.
Patients can then continue the exercises on their own, at times that suit them, seeking physio input as required
Physio Whyalla and the Port Augusta Physio Centre have full Pilates Studios, with Reformers and Trapeze Tables. |

Pilates is an exercise program named after Joseph Pilates. He developed an exercise program in the early 20th century to improve the physical fitness of World War 1 soldiers.
Joseph Pilates later incorporated resistance into programs for rehabilitating injured patients. He later added springs into machines, which form the foundation of the famous Pilates equipment used today.
In the early days his exercises were embraced by the dance world who found them to be excellent in terms of strengthening and performance enhancing. In the event of an injury the Pilates exercises also maintained strength and assisted with rehabilitation.
In more recent times physiotherapists have embraced Pilates as it provides the specific strength and core stability needed by so many of our clients experiencing ongoing back pain. |

Your Physiotherapist may use RTUS to assess and assist in retraining these muscles. Some of these muscles are deep and difficult to feel, RTUS shows these muscles during movement to give you and your physio visual feedback on your muscle function. |
